Cosetta Zanotti is a children’s book author from Brescia, Italy. Her stories have been published widely in Italy and have been translated into numerous languages. She meets children in schools and libraries, where she develops family-enrichment projects through her storytelling. She has also curated many prestigious literary events for children across Italy. She has been illustrating books for children and teenagers for many prominent Italian publishing houses. Some of her titles have been published in France, Switzerland, Spain, Korea, the USA and China. She has received numerous awards, including the 2013 Andersen Award for best Italian illustrator. The woodland creatures initially seem skeptical, but the bears fully embrace the child they have. There’s not a moment’s hesitation as they accept their child’s differences and work to bridge experience gaps. Initially inspired by friends whose adopted son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, the tale is infused with a dreamy, ethereal tone. The narrative perfectly matches the homey illustrations. Scuderi’s watercolor animals are rudimentary but appealing, with textured paper peeping through colored layers for an even more welcoming rustic feel. It adds to the earthy naturalness of the story.
