The story focusses on loneliness and how to befriend someone who is new. The feelings of shyness and timidity are expressed to show that you can extend a hand of friendship when you notice a lonely person. Coping skills are shown that allow the shy person to respond to someone who extends a hand of friendship. Both can learn to trust each other and enjoy each other's company after a while. It takes time.
