TAKUMI: Downtown Tokyo Artisan Culture

An intimate look at 35 artisan ateliers in East Tokyo's shitamachi district in Asakusa, the traditional commoner and merchant district of the Edo era. The book features artisans in small studios, creating exquisite items by hand, a rare glimpse into the work of traditional screen makers, kimono dyers, washi paper makers, glass blowers and more. The region has also retained many older traditions such as bathhouses, shotengai shopping streets and Nagaya architecture, all showcased in hundreds of evocative photos.
