In The Shadow Of The Sea

February 17, 1798. Off the coast of Leka in northern Norway, two ships die in a winter storm — the French privateer L'Enfant de La Patrie and the British merchantman HMS Aurora. Captain Georges Louis Morancourt has taken five barrels of Portuguese gold off Aurora in an act of piracy no manifest will ever record. Three barrels go down with L'Enfant. Two come ashore.Twenty-one-year-old English cadet Lawrence Elias Montgomery, the only French-speaker Morancourt has not killed, stands on a Norwegian slope in the dark and watches men bury what they are not meant to bury. If he wishes to see the morning, he will keep his mouth shut.He keeps it shut for the rest of his life. Two hundred and twenty-seven years later, a marine biologist named Aria Montgomery is given a silver medallion by her father, and the story that begins here goes on.In the Shadow of the Sea is the prelude to the Secret of the Sea trilogy.
