Psychosomatic Medicine

Kurt D. Ackerman, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Fellow of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. He serves as Medical Director of Adult Mood and Anxiety Services, and Behavioral Health IT, at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC. His research has focused on clinical applications of psychoneuroimmunology. Current interests include development of educational tools, order sets, and clinical pathways for treatment of psychiatric issues in a general medical setting.

Increasing recognition of the effects of comorbid psychiatric disorders that accompany medical conditions mandates that all physicians including psychiatrists, understand that recognition and management of such coexisting clinical entities is imperative.
