Dag Hammarskjoeld, the Secretary General of the United Nations, was a Swedish politician, a moral philosopher and an idealist. He had a vision for a new world, more peaceful and equitable, and he was fighting to bring it into being. But on 18th September 1961, as he raced to broker a cease-fire between UN troops and Moise Tshombe's Katangese fighters, his plane crashed in the forests of present day Zambia.
