The reason I liked this novel was its realistic portrayal of relationships and the difficulties of modern life, like being put constantly on hold when trying to get through on the phone regarding something important. This is a small irritant, but add them up, and it does make life difficult, as it does for the characters in the novel, in which marriage goes from love to process, a process of buying groceries, driving kids to soccer games, laundry, etc., etc. What I didn't like was it went on a bit too long.
