Raucous and raw, Michael Narkunski's memoir explores the complicated, unglamorous, and sometimes treacherous side of the queer millennial experience. The twenty interconnected essays trace events from the author's volatile adolescence in conservative Staten Island to an emotionally armored adulthood in Manhattan, including a teacher crush that turns into a misguided "babysitter's seduction," a first boyfriend whose secret prosthetic kicks off the least of their problems, and myriad (fortunately failed) attempts to sabotage a successful long-term relationship. Michael Narkunski is a Los Angeles–based New Yorker who writes about homosexuality, relationships, mental health issues, growing up in the forgotten borough of Staten Island, and the occasional game show disaster. His personal essays have appeared in Out, Narratively, Hippocampus Magazine, Southeast Review, and two LGBTQ anthologies, and his plays have been presented by Dixon Place, New Ambassadors Theater Co., and Philadelphia Artists' Collective. He holds degrees in writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and Stony Brook University and currently serves as coeditor of The Queer Love Project.
