JONATHAN CLARK is Hall Distinguished Professor of British History at the University of Kansas. His publications include Samuel Johnson, English Society 1660-1832, The Language of Liberty 1660-1832, and an edition of Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France. HOWARD ERSKINE-HILL is Professor of Literary History, Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge. His publications include Poetry and the Realm of Politics: Shakespeare to Dryden, Poetry of Opposition and Revolution: Dryden to Wordsworth and as editor, Alexander Pope: Selected Letters.
