Data Communications and their Performance

This book presents recent and original state-of-the-art research contributions relating to the modelling and performance of high speed multimedia networks. Special emphasis is given to ATM networks. It discusses common problems encountered, from the design of switch architectures to high-performance protocol implementation. The book is divided into eight parts, which explore the following topics: ATM multiplexing; high performance protocols; switching; queuing models; source modelling; traffic management; performance and optimization of ATM networks Data Communications and their Performance contains the selected proceedings of the Sixth Conference on Performance of Computer Networks, organized by the International Federation for Information Processing and held in Istanbul, Turkey, in October 1995. It will be essential reading for post-graduate students, engineers and personnel involved in research and development in both universities and industry. This book should be of interest to postgraduate students, engineers and those in R&D in the field of telecommunications.
