This multifaceted book is enriched with deep scientific contents, and each chapter clearly defines historical steps, the emerging role during the years of new morphological findings, molecular pathways, and targets. Focus is also directed on key challenges associated and future directions.

The history of angiogenesis research is an intriguing tool for discovering answers to a wide array of queries arising in the biological and medical world. This comprehensive resource skillfully integrates all the key aspects related to angiogenesis, and will be of immense help to students, researchers, and industry experts who want to explore the last two decades of angiogenesis discoveries and research.

    • Provides information related to the history of angiogenesis
    • Presents information on the morphological aspects in the angiogenic process and how it has changed over time
    • Covers experimental approaches to investigate the angiogenic process
    • Provides a comprehensive overview of pharmacological tools in the field of angiogenesis

Prof. Gianfranco Natale has a degree in Medicine and Surgery, and attended a Specialization Course in Clinical Pharmacology at University of Pisa, Italy. His didactic activity (human anatomy) is delivered in several university courses of the medical area, including doctorate courses, masters and winter and summer schools. As academician he has many publications in various national and international journal of repute, with h-index 25. He has presented 150 research abstracts in various national and international conferences. His areas of interest in research include the following topics: morphofunctional alterations induced by stressing agents (electromagnetic fields, noise) in different organs, including heart and adrenal gland; morphometry, pharmacology and physiopathology of the experimental peptic ulcer; morphofunctional alterations of the gastrointestinal tract in experimentally induced neurodegenerative diseases; studies of gross anatomy, with particular reference to myofascia. He is director of the Museum of Human Anatomy “Filippo Civinini” of the University of Pisa. For this reason, he is of also having expertise in history of medicine, with a particular attention to anatomy. Guido Bocci, MD PhD, is currently a Full Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Pisa. He is an European Certified Pharmacologist (EuCP). He maintains relevant international collaborations with various groups in Europe and North America. His international experience is closely related to the 3-year post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto in the Kerbel’s Laboratory, with whom he continued to work in the following decades on numerous projects. He has been a PI of various projects granted by AIRC, ITT and foundations. He is in the editorial board of various journals, associate editor of Frontiers in Oncology, Frontiers in Pharmacology and regional editor of Clinical Cancer Drugs. The main research activity of Prof. Bocci has been focused on antineoplastic chemotherapy and antiangiogenic research, including both in vitro and in vivo experimental settings, and clinical pharmacology of chemotherapeutic drugs and antiangiogenic therapies. He has been deeply involved in the birth and development of metronomic chemotherapy concept in both pre-clinical and clinical trials. Domenico Ribatti was awarded his M.D. degree in October 1981, with full marks. In 1983, D.R. joined the Medical School as Assistant at the Institute of Human Anatomy, University of Bari.
