    Beskrivning

Special Rock Mechanics for Cultural Heritage and Reservoir Slopes: Theory, Modeling, and Applications presents a comprehensive study of the unique challenges in understanding and preserving rock formations in culturally significant sites and reservoir slopes.

The book begins by outlining the theoretical foundations and practical applications of special rock mechanics, emphasizing the importance of addressing creep and salt weathering processes in sandstone. Advanced modeling techniques, including creep simulation and contact constitutive models, are discussed to elucidate sandstone deterioration mechanisms, while numerical simulations shed light on salt weathering effects and the role of nano-lime reinforcement in mitigating damage. Comparative discussions highlight common failure modes and provide methodological recommendations for modeling workflows. Applications extend to aging deterioration models, hygrothermal-salt interactions, anchoring simulations, and landslide-generated impulse wave modeling, demonstrating the versatility of special rock mechanics in real-world scenarios. Innovative rock damage detection methods are explored, including micro-CT imaging, NMR, SEM, XRD, acoustic emission testing, and 3D laser scanning, integrated into a framework for precise damage identification and parameter assessment. The book concludes with a forward-looking perspective on future research directions.

This volume is an essential resource for engineers, geoscientists, and conservationists seeking to apply advanced rock mechanics principles to safeguard cultural heritage and ensure the stability of critical reservoir slopes.

    • Connects theoretical concepts with real-world examples like the Dazu Rock Carvings, Aleutian landslide, Angkor Wat, and the Helan Mountain
    • Presents cutting-edge numerical simulations, contact constitutive models, and experiments on salt weathering and water-salt migration
    • Examines the latest tools to accurately predict rock behavior under environmental stresses for better engineering and conservation solutions
