Jag läser väldigt mycket SF och Dan Simmons Hyperion-epos är min absoluta favoritserie. Smart, spännande och intressant. Existensiell SF när den är som allra allra bäst.

Jag var tämligen skeptisk när jag började läsa prologen till boken, och även de följande 50 sidorna slölästes. Emellertid berättas "Hyperion" på ett mycket elegant vis och med variation och elegans. Simmons sällar sig till den korta raden av sci-fi författare som gör något annat av sin berättelse än bara äventyr, framtidsvisioner, dystopier etc. Som titeln anger spinns boken spinns skickligt utifrån John Keats, och de existentiella frågor som framkom i dennes lyrik. Själva "människa-maskin"-problematiken diskuteras också, likaså relationen mellan teknologi och religion. Simmons bjuder inte bara på en bra berättelse, utan också en reflektion över vårt samhälles teknologi-utveckling och våra samtida teknik-etiska (far)hågor.
