Robert Aickman (1914-1981) worked as a literary agent, editor and theatre critic. In addition to eight collections of 'strange stories', as he called them, his writing includes a novel, a novella and various other works of fiction, drama and nonfiction. He published two memoirs and two popular nonfiction books about the inland waterways.
