Persuasion of My Days

Harvey Dorfman has worked in education and psychology as a teacher, counselor, coach, and consultant. In 1999, Dorfman became a full-time consultant in sport psychology and staff development for the Scott Boras Corporation, an agency that represents professional baseball players. Harvey has also been a freelance journalist, his work having appeared in The New York Times, Boston Globe, Miami Herald and Los Angeles Times, among others. For eight years, while teaching in Vermont, he wrote a weekly column entitled "Miscellany" for the Rutland Herald. His "Mind Game" column appeared in PRO, a quarterly magazine for professional athletes. Dorfman lectures at major universities and for corporations on psychology, self-enhancement, management strategies, and leadership training.

I was always envious of those who raved about a teacher who had a profound effect on their lives. Unfortunately, I did not have such an educator during my school years. At the age of twenty-six, however, I met an inspirational teacher who helped shape my life. Harvey helped me become a better Major League pitcher, but more importantly, helped me be a better husband, father, and friend. I feel grateful and blessed to have such an extraordinary person in my life. When I am asked who my most influential teacher was, my answer is, 'Harvey Dorfman, he helped change my life for the better.'
