Kathryn Scott has been working in the interior design industry since 1980. She grew up in Texas, and studied in Dallas and Rome, earning a B.F.A in studio art as well as a B.F.A in Italian Studies. She also attended the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design in New York City, and has received several awards for her paintings. In NYC, she initially apprenticed with Hans Krieks, then with Leila and Massimo Vignelli. Scott bought an apartment in a brownstone in Brooklyn Heights. Her restoration led her to the realization that she wanted to pursue interior design, and she opened her own firm in 1994. Her work has appeared in House Beautiful, AD, and Southern Accents, among others. She has received four awards from The Homebook Design Excellence as well as Home of the Year from Metropolitan Magazine. Also known for her porcelain designs, Kathryn lives with her husband, Wenda Gu, a world-renowned artist, and their daughter, Simone, in Brooklyn Heights, New York.
"Every great interior designer has her first book and this volume marks Karthryn Scott’s debut. The question readers may ask is, “Why hasn’t this happened earlier?” The Brooklyn-based Scott is already a seasoned designer, who understands how to establish beauty inside a home, using a minimal palette and just the right “artisanal” details. Walk into a Kathryn Scott room and there is a decided sense of serenity, harmony, and simplicity.."—MILIEU MAGAZINE"I have quite the collection of beautiful design books, but this new one by Kathryn Scott has me captivated and design-delirious with its lessons in proportion, understated elegance, architectural interest, and thoughtful details. The photography by William Abronowicz is beyond stunning and will take your breath away with the gentle turn of each page. There is a rare quietude in the mood of the decor as well as the photography which ushers this engaged reader into calm and peaceful design bliss."—HELLO LOVELY"When an artist shifts into interior design, the homes they touch are transformed. Rooms become canvases, colors take on new meaning. The proof of it is in Kathryn Scott's new design book, "Creating Beauty: Interiors"—HOUSTON CHRONICLE
