Bruce E. Wampold, PhD, ABPP, is the Patricia L. Wolleat Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and director of the Research Institute at Modum Bad Psychiatric Center in Vikersund, Norway. Zac E. Imel, PhD, is an assistant professor with the counseling psychology program in the Department of Educational Psychology and an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah.

   Otroligt viktig bok avseende psykoterapi

   Denna bok bär alla läsa som är intresserade av psykoterapi och vad som hjälper. Wampold går igenom decennier av forskning och presenterar en modell; - den kontextuella modellen, som bättre förklarar hur psykoterapi fungerar samt resultat av psykoterapi, än den gängse medicinska modellen lyckas med. I korthet hävdar (baserat på en enormt stor mängd studier) att psykoterapi är verksamt, att det är allians, relation, rational, mål och aktivt arbete som gör skillnad och inte specifika faktorer såsom en viss typ av exponering eller kognitiv omstrukturering, eller annan specifik ingrediens. Wampold sammanfattar en oerhörd mängd forskning och tar bland annat upp svårigheterna med att påvisa betydelsen av specifika faktorer, samt att vissa terapier skulle vara överlägsna vid vissa diagnoser, vilka både är förutsägelser utifrån den medicinska modellen ock som alltså saknar forskningsstöd. Denna bok tydliggör en stor mängd brister inom psykoterapiforskning i allmänhet men pekar också på att psykoterapi är effektivt så länge en antal grundläggande premisser uppfylls (s k bona fide terapier, där KBT, BT, PDT etc ofta men inte alltid uppfyller dessa kriterier). Boken ger vägledning kring vad som är verksamt och i vilken riktning man ska gå om man vill bli en bättre psykoterapeut. Boken borde vara obligatorisk läsning på alla psykoterapi- eller psykologutbildningar!!
