Beskrivning
No other novel has been used to describe the "Russian mentality" or "Russian soul" as frequently as Goncharov's Oblomov, first published in 1859. This guide will enable readers to appreciate fully both the remarkable talent of this Russian writer and his masterpiece. The contributors to this volume begin from the premise that perhaps more than any other Russian writer of the nineteenth century, Goncharov needs rereadings and reevaluations.

Recensioner i media

Galya Diment begins her introduction to this fine anthology by recalling Vladimir Nabokov's snide dismissal of Ivan Goncharov as a 'stupefying bore'—an opinion the reader will be even less inclined to agree with after reading these thought-provoking revisitations of Oblomov... Oblomov emerges here as more complex and provocative, indeed... more 'disturbing' than one might have acknowledged -- a novel with 'loose ends' that rewards an attentive reader willing to lay aside certain critical encrustations." —Slavic Review
