The scholars whose articles appear here were trying to move away from the overspecialized economics of social indifferences and eventual political disaster. Instead, they tried to trace the interaction of politics and economics and to keep the political and human consequences of economic policies in sight. These are problems that must be better understood if they are to be dealt with successfully in practice. A first step is to bring together economics, political science and sociology. This outstanding volume represents that first step.
