STEVEN TUTTLE is an assistant professor of sociology at St. Joseph’s University–Long Island. His scholarship has appeared in City & Community, Critical Sociology, American Behavioral Scientist, and Rural Sociology, among other venues. Tuttle previously held a postdoctoral researcher position at Ball State University, and his current and future research examines how local resources and community and economic development strategies shape how low-income residents make ends meet in three rural Indiana towns. He currently resides in Queens, New York.

Storefront carves new terrain in the study of residential segregation. Tuttle spent three years doing ethnographic work in neighborhoods populated mostly by Latinos in Chicago to examine how commercial gentrification leads to these neighborhoods becoming white. He powerfully shows how these neighborhoods can look integrated at the beginning of the process when in truth they experience 'integrated segregation' that will inexorably lead to the whitening of the neighborhoods. This is a book I will definitely assign in my courses!
