Other South is a pathbreaking intervention into the field of Faulkner studies. Whereas Faulkner is customarily represented as a product of literary modernism, Aboul-Ela invokes the 'peripheralist aesthetics' fashioned within the Mariategui tradition to separate him from the Euro-American modernist tradition.
