Transactions of the Royal Historical Society is an annual collection of articles based on papers given to the Society by distinguished invited speakers and winners of RHS prizes. Volume 3 of the Seventh Series includes research articles on the establishment of political authority in Post-Carolingian Europe; Jewish-Muslim relations and gender roles in late eighteenth-century India; public health reform in Victorian Britain; the early history of China's long-distance telephone network; Pan-Africanism in Britain during the interwar period; Covent Garden's Royal Opera House; and the campaign for civil rights in 1960s Northern Ireland. It also contains The Common Room section, featuring comments and roundtables on topics such as archival research and environmental history, and a Special Section on political assemblies in the early period of European colonial settlement in the Americas, Africa and Asia.
