Mer om författaren

M.L Baldwin is a former Tank Commander who joined the Second Royal Tank Regiment in 1996 and served with them on operations in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan over a 19 year career. He was awarded a Mentioned in Dispatches (MiD) during his last tour of Afghanistan. After leaving the forces he decided to try his hand at becoming an author, which is where you join him now in his journey. Inspired by the likes of Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy, he wrote his debut series of books for Operation Fools Mate back in 2023 which he hopes people will enjoy reading as much as he has enjoyed writing them. Using his own first hand experiences of life on the front line of combat operations, he hopes to bring a level of realism and excitement that will both shock and excite his readers. After all the modern battlefield is full of technology, but ultimately, it's the human element and a certain degree of luck that play its part the most. His expertise in his field have garnered widespread acclaim and featured interviews on BBC Radio, whilst his articles in leading publications such as The European, NationalWorld, MSN, the Daily Star (UK), The London Economic and others, have helped solidify his reputation as a sought-after authority in the field. Keep watching for more exciting titles. In his own words, "I'm not finished yet, I'm only just getting started."

The political undercurrent running throughDeadlock is palpable. Baldwin doesn't shy away from dissecting the weakenedstate of British defence forces, highlighting how successive governments'meddling and mismanagement have eroded their capability. His commentary on theoverreliance on the United States is unnervingly prescient, adding weight tohis warnings about a precarious future that we see evolve day by day rightbefore our eyes in 2025.Operation Fools Mate: Deadlock is amasterclass blending military realism with speculative fiction. The book'sauthenticity stems from Baldwin's firsthand military experience and his abilityto explain and humanise the conflicts and decisions that soldiers face. Farfrom glorifying war, Baldwin paints a bleak picture of its toll on people andnations as a warning, which we would do well to take note of.I repeat what I said about Baldwin in my Operation Fools Mate 48 review. The storylinetouches on a political undercurrent that is so relevant now that it confirmsthat Baldwin probably has insider knowledge. This time, the narration inOperation Fools Mate-Deadlock is so realistic that Baldwin's appearance as agovernment advisor on The News at Ten is not just likely; it's a realisticsuggestion. For fans of the trilogy, Deadlock is agripping continuation that balances action-packed set pieces with humorousintrospective moments. For newcomers (jumping ahead is not recommended becauseyou will miss some vital backstories), Deadlock is a compelling peek intoBaldwin's world-a world uncomfortably close to ours. Baldwin's words are morethan fiction; they're a wake-up call to the fragility of global, andparticularly UK, security and the resilience required to navigate itschallenges.M.L. Baldwin's unwavering gaze at thebrutalities of modern warfare leaves an indelible mark on the soul, ensuringreaders are not merely spectators but emotionally (sometimes to the point ofqueasiness) invested witnesses to the lives of the characters and theunravelling of our nation.
