Martin Garrett has written widely on Romantic, Victorian and Renaissance literature. His book The Palgrave Literary Dictionary of Byron (2010) won the Elma Dangerfield award of the International Byron Society in 2011. He covered P.B. Shelley in the same series (2014). His cultural guide Oxford was also published in 2014.

“Martin Garrett’s A Romantics Chronology, 1780–1832 focuses on key events of the romantic period. Garrett’s work is extraordinary in the sense that it is published as part of a book series concentrating on the chronology of individual authors.  ... a very well-researched and immensely resourceful book that provides quick insights into the romantic period. Its power to contextualise particular events turns it into an indispensable source for all students and scholars of romantic literature and culture.” (Ralf Haekel, The Coleridge Bulletin, Vol. 50, 2017)“The amount of detail contained within its pages is impressive. It will be an indispensable resource for all those with an interest in the romantic period. So many snippets of fascinating information flesh out the lives of some of our greatest literary and cultural personalities. It should be on the shelves of all institutions teaching English literature at tertiary level … .” (Diana Dixon, Languages and Literature, Vol. 30 (5), 2016)
