Evesham was an important town in the Middle Ages, its abbey being one of the largest in Europe. One of the country’s earliest musical theorists, Walter Odington, was a monk there. The abbey was home to famous monks, abbots, martyrs and saints. Of particular note, the town was the scene of the famous (infamous?) Battle of Evesham in 1265.
