Out of the Shadows

Out of the Shadows focuses on Lord King's ten years spent as Governor of the Bank of England. With unparalleled access, drawing on his notes, records, and diary entries, Lord King provides us with his reflections on the financial crisis of 2008, how we got there from 'the Great Stability' of 1990 to 2007, and where we might be headed in this period of uncertainty and geopolitical fragmentation.Utilising lessons from both history and personal experience, Lord King provides the intellectual framework by which we can set about reducing financial and political crises. Along the way, he considers questions central to our global financial predicament: how should central banks assist compromised banks? Do we need the IMF? Why did the global financial crisis benefit populist parties internationally? There is no one more qualified to provide answers to these questions.
