Wheatley set about writing this 1887 volume knowing that his attempt to form a personal library was only one of many ways to approach such a large subject. This book includes chapters on people’s existing libraries, how to buy books, overviews of both public and private libraries, bibliographies, publishing societies, libraries for children, and a list of one hundred desirable books.
