Shirley Hughes has illustrated more than 200 children’s books and is one of the world's most beloved writers for children. She won the Kate Greenaway Medal twice and was awarded a CBE for her distinguished service to children’s literature. In 2007, her beloved picture book, Dogger, was voted the UK’s favourite Kate Greenaway Medal-winning book of all time. As well as her best-loved picture books, Shirley also wrote novels for children; the first, Hero on a Bicycle won the Museum of Tolerance: Once Upon a World Children’s Book Award in 2014. Her second novel, Whistling in the Dark won the Young Quills Historical Fiction Awards in 2016.
