Briony May Smith graduated from Falmouth University with a First Class degree in Illustration. Since then, she has been shortlisted for the British Comic Awards and has twice been highly commended for the Macmillan Children’s Prize. She is the author-illustrator of Margaret's Unicorn, The Mermaid Moon, A Practical Present for Philippa Pheasant and Tiny Jenny. She also illustrated The Giant’s Necklace, written by Michael Morpurgo and Tooth Fairy in Training and Witch in Training, both written by Michelle Robinson. Indeed there’s so much to love especially Bryony’s mixed media depiction of the sylvan setting of the tale with its tall trees and those foxgloves, anemones and other wild flowers: and definitely not forgetting that tiny frog wearing a crown and sitting a-top a stone in a pond. Equally delightful is the lyrical telling with its fairy tale allusions, descriptions and occasional word play.A great story to share with KS1 classes and individuals, making sure there’s plenty to time to peruse the pictures.
