Recensioner i media
“Till the Extinction of this Rebellion delivers a concise retelling of George Rogers Clark's 1778 Illinois Campaign. . . . Sterner's history is one that presents the campaign as close as possible to how contemporaries may have perceived it. Readers interested in the American Revolution, borderslands warfare, and early American Indigenous history will find much to enjoy.”—Journal of Military History“Sterner has done researchers a favor with this helpful volume. . . . Here the Illinois campaign itself is addressed as an event, with the key dates and movements helpfully laid out in a gripping narrative that captures the landscape of the Illinois country with particular clarity.”—Journal of Southern History“Sterner masterfully describes how Clark and just 150 colonial militiamen seized political, military, and economic control of 180,000 square miles of wilderness, from Pittsburgh west to the Mississippi River and from Kentucky in the south to Detroit in the north, an area known as Illinois Country.”—Military Officer“Kudos, Eric Sterner, kudos for shining a light on a long-neglected chapter of Illinois’s history. Kudos for telling the story of George Rogers Clark’s remarkable campaign to wrest the Illinois Country from British control. In the process, Sterner tweaks the revisionist view of Clark, restoring a bit of the luster on Clark’s reputation following recent criticisms. . . . Sterner’s book restores a more measured assessment of a very complicated man. . . . Sterner is deserving of our thanks for shining a new light on a remarkable American hero, flaws and all.”—Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society
