Shirley Jackson is the queen of modern gothic stories, if you will, twisting perspectives and challenging preconceptions. Most well-known for her horror stories, such as "The Haunting of Hill House" (included here and now also adapted into a well-made Netflix mini-series), but she is of course more versatile than that.
