Beskrivning
The Internationalization of Populism: Populism Beyond the Nation-State? answers a key question that is underexplored in populism studies: how do populist forces build international alliances and connect their practices beyond the national context? Despite the burgeoning literature on populism, the scholarship has not yet developed a comprehensive analysis of the international and transnational links among populist parties and movements. Drawing on a variety of perspectives and methods, this volume offers a theoretically informed and empirically based analysis of different types of processes of internationalization of populism. The Internationalization of Populism fills a gap in the scholarship by focusing on the trans- and inter-national dynamics of populist politics. Despite the public interest in such a phenomenon, there is still little extensive research on the commonalities and differences between the different types of internationalization of populism such as European far-right populist parties, the connections of rightwing populist movements influenced by Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro, the formation of an Iberosphere between Spain, Portugal and Latin America, and Yannis Varoufakis’ transnational Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (Diem25).
