Water - The Last Chance? aims to prevent the current water crisis situation in the world from turning into a catastrophe. The needs of the world’s population now exceed the amount of water available for water supply and irrigation. With economic stagnation and political conflicts dominating the news, ignoring water and the environment matters results in far greater risks to life.Based on successful case studies collected and studied over 50 years, the aim is not only to show what needs to be done but, equally importantly, how to do it. The main theme running throughout is the need to capture and store more rainwater, and to reduce water use in communities, in irrigation and in industry. It also includes the need to improve early warning systems for floods and droughts, and the importance of public awareness and participation.Water - The Last Chance? has been written for three groups of readers: all levels of government and their water professional advisors, students studying water management and the general public.Water is life and everyone will be affected by changes to water supply. Each individual should ask ‘what should and can I do’ in my own water behaviour, and should have the opportunity to implore governments to act urgently.
