Wild Northern Irish Tales is a collection of short stories about tightly knit communities, brought to life by Tyrone man John O’Reilly. The Northeast of Ireland, Ulster, of the 1950s and 1960s was a different place to the rest of Ireland, it always had been. Here there were communities that revolved around farming, school and church. Outwardly, little had changed since the 1930s. No electricity. No running water. It was surprisingly cheerful and liberal for its time, due in part to the spirit of its people and the peaceful invasion of American troops destined for war torn Europe a decade earlier. Counter-culture and popular music by the British Broadcasting Corporation in the 1950s and 1960s brought further change. Original and authentic, these stories bring to life the experiences of rural Northern Irish communities.
