    Beskrivning

Robert is a dashing upper-classEnglishman, Daniel a proud Jewish communist. They are comrades at the Battle ofEl Alamein in 1942, fighting together in North Africa and Italy as part of thevictorious Eighth Army. Despite their vastly different backgrounds and opposingpolitical beliefs, they form a deep bond in the crucible of global conflict. Fourteen years later, the twomen meet again at the time of the Suez Crisis, with the Soviet Union preparingto invade Hungary. Robert, unhappily married to a beautiful artist and with ascheming aristocratic mistress, is a Foreign Office official, while Daniel is ajournalist on the communist Daily Worker. The friends find theirloyalties – to one another and to their country – torn apart as the worldteeters on the brink of yet another war.At once epic and intimate, Levin’sWar is a novel about love, disillusionment and betrayal set against thebackdrop of the crumbling British Empire. Spanning continents and decades, thenovel examines how enduring values – both personal and political – canwithstand the tumultuous tide of twentieth-century history.

    Recensioner i media

"A resonant fable of friendship and betrayal, Levin's War explores shattered ideals and forbidden love in a post-war Britain struggling to find a role in the world." - Francis Wheen, writer, journalist and broadcaster"Levin's War is written with verve and a masterful sense of pace. Strong characters inhabit a strong plot that has great historical resonance in this current post-colonial age. A terrific read." - Andrew Rosenheim, former managing director of Penguin Press and author of nine novels"Levin's War is a compelling story of love and betrayal set at one of the turning points of the modern age - as Britain's position as a world power crumbles and the Soviet Union crushes Hungary. Its vivid, agonised characters are caught up in the sweep of history." - Tina Brown, author and former editor of the New Yorker"I was profoundly moved by thisintense, emotional recreation of 1956. Levin's War is a storythat resonates with contemporary events - uncomfortably so." - A. N.Wilson, historian and novelist"Stephen Glover recaptures theatmosphere of both the Second World War and the Suez Crisis superbly, as heweaves a gripping psychological tale of high politics, espionage and sexualdeception." - Andrew Roberts, historian and author of Churchill:Walking with Destiny
