Recensioner i media

This irresistible compendium begins with a brief historical review of definitions, characteristics, and common tropes of over 100 international urban legends, identifying sharing platforms ranging from oral traditions to Xeroxlore to podcasts. The introductory matter quickly gives way to five chronological sections: "Premodernity," "Modernity," "Midcentury," "Postmodern Era," and "Metamodern Era." Spreads include an eclectic range of legends, such as lost cities, road rumors (e.g., phantom hitchhikers and buses), UFOs, Mothman, poisoned dresses, and exploding toilets. The final section, the "Metamodern Era," uniquely covers how technology has further evolved urban legends and their dissemination. Pages feature busy layouts with concise captions (ranging from one sentence to a few paragraphs) supporting colorful and detailed illustrations. Occasional spreads offer comparison charts on universal themes such as cryptids. Some longer entries consider possible origins; others talk about impacts and consequences. The overall tone is informed skepticism based on plausible explanations mixed in with reports of witnesses and true believers. There's a glossary and an index but no sources or bibliography-not that enchanted browsers will care. Lightweight but absolutely magnetic fare.
