Jan Pienkowski was born in Warsaw in 1936. After creating his first book at the age of eight, he worked in design, including television, theatre and greetings cards. He had a wonderful collaboration with Joan Aiken and pioneered the modern pop-up book. He also worked on the beloved Meg and Mog books. He won the Kate Greenaway Medal for Illustration twice.

    Mitt eget barndomsexemplar av denna popupbok med skräcktema har blivit en smula luggslitet, så jag blev verkligen glad när jag såg att den fanns att få tag på igen. På engelska visserligen, men den lilla text som finns är inte det viktiga i denna bok. Min 4-åring och min 2-åring älskar den båda två, även om en 2-åring inte bör lämnas ensam med den om man vill att funktionerna ska hålla länge...Boken är fylld av dolda luckor att öppna, flikar att dra i och hjul att snurra på, och det finns massor att upptäcka på varje uppslag: giftflaskornas vätskor flyter runt, tavlornas ögon rör sig, ur garderoben hoppar ett skelett ut... Rolig, mycket finurlig och välgjord, lite lagom läskig, alldeles förtjusande bok!
