Self-harm in adolescents is an increasingly recognized problem, and there is growing awareness of the important role schools and health services can play in detecting and supporting those at risk. Keith Hawton is Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Centre for Suicide Research at the University of Oxford. He is co-editor of the International Handbook of Suicide and Attempted Suicide, co-author of Deliberate Self-harm in Adolescence, also published by Jessica Kingsley, and has been presented with awards from the International Association for Suicide Prevention (1995), the American Association of Suicidology (2001), and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (2002). Karen Rodham is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Suicide Research at the University of Oxford, focusing on the lifestyle and coping skills of adolescents. Emma Evans is a Research Assistant at the Centre for Suicide Research at the University of Oxford, and has also undertaken research into effective provision of preschool education.

This is a very valuable book, strongly supported by empirical research.
