Goddard University Professor of Slavic Languages and Comparative Literature emeritus at Brown University, USA. He is the author of Mayakovsky, The Idiot: An Interpretation; A History of Russian Literature. A Karamazov Companion, and has translated three volumes of Dostoevsky's writing.
