In the late seventies, Newcastle's Kicking Theatre company is putting on a play by its resident playwright, Cuff. The company is full of big characters and bigger egos, all vying for their place in the limelight. Relationships platonic and sexual shift and change daily and into this explosive mix walks a teenage lad on a work placement scheme. At first lost and nervous Matt slowly works his way into Kicking Theatre's heart and he begins to realise that he may at last have found his place in the world. Then, one night, at a party to celebrate what may be the company's final production, a stranger crashes the party and tells the boy that he's about to lose his job.The results of this misunderstanding are tragic and turn Ham's life on its head.
