Corinne Demas is an award-winning author of over 35 books, including five novels (The Writing Circle, Returning to Shore), two short story collections, a memoir (Eleven Stories High: Growing Up in Stuyvesant Town, 1948–1968), two plays, a collection of poetry, and numerous books for children (Saying Goodbye to Lulu, The Littlest Matryoshka, The Disappearing Island). She graduated from Tufts University and has a PhD in English and comparative literature from Columbia University. She is a professor at Mount Holyoke College and the fiction editor of the Massachusetts Review and divides her time between Western Massachusetts and Cape Cod. Penelope Dullaghan is an award-winning illustrator and picture book maker. Her books include The Good Song, published by Cameron Kids. She lives with her family in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Full of dialogue, the text is delightfully uncomplicated, yet the word choice is rich and inviting. The illustrations are crisp, clean, and adorable in deep jewel-tone colors set against a bright snowy backdrop.
