A must-read!

I'm generally not one for dark stories. I tend to prefer feel good novels. I want the happily ever after and challenges overcome. This book is not one of those. In fact, it's pretty much the opposite. Does that mean I didn't like it? No. As was the case with the last book I read from this author, it's the second layer that I like. The bigger question surrounding every action. The way it makes you think about - and question - everything. When you finally believe you have it all figured out, the author pulls the rug from under you. On the one hand, the book reminds us of how quickly life can change. How small we really are in the scheme of things. And how, in the end, we're all one. Connected in ways that will only become apparent when something challenges our lives - our very species. It also deals with integrity and morale. When you know that there can be no long-term consequences; when all your actions are seen from the larger perspective of an impending apocalypse; when "the law" becomes useless because it's outdone by something far greater than anything human made, all you're really left with is integrity and morale - or not. When it comes down to it, exactly how strong are your moral convictions? With everything seemingly lost, how long before you lose yourself? And how much is one human life worth when every single human on earth is in danger? Patrick Morgan has a way of writing that really draws you in. It's impossible to stop reading. Not only because of the suspense, of wanting to know what will happen. There's more than that. To me, his mastery is in the details (and in the way he makes you go "Wait¿ what?") As dark as it was, I would highly recommend it.
