October 7th

One day of violence. Five lives caught in its aftermath. A world struggling over what comes next.October 7th moves across Gaza, Israel, the United States, and beyond, tracing the reverberations of a day that changed countless lives.A captive soldier faces an uncertain fate. An interrogator wrestles with conscience and duty. A physician navigates divided loyalties. A media figure becomes caught in the battle over who controls the narrative. And an academic discovers how quickly distant events can become deeply personal.Through a chorus of intimate Jewish, Muslim, Israeli, Palestinian, American, and diasporic perspectives, Allan Havis explores what happens when public catastrophe enters private lives—and when grief, loyalty, identity, and truth become impossible to separate.Unflinching yet deeply humane, October 7th refuses easy villains, easy answers, and the comfort of a single narrative. Instead, it asks what it means to witness, to survive, and to remember when the same event can carry profoundly different truths for those living through its consequences.A timely work of literary fiction about conflict, conscience, and the human lives behind the headlines.
