Prospective teachers enter the profession believing it offers a certain level of job security and good benefits, usually including a defined-benefit, state-funded pension. But things are changing. Much the same can be said of many charter schools and private colleges and universities.The book consists of fourteen chapters covering a comprehensive group of topics specifically curated for educators teaching at the K-12 and university level, including saving for retirement, managing debt, investment strategies, and real estate. Each chapter begins with a case study of an educator in a specific financial situation, which sets the scene for the introduction and explanation of key concepts. The chapters include a Q&A section to address common questions and conclude with a “Financial 911” focusing on a financial emergency related to the chapter topic.

Tawni Hunt Ferrarini is the Robert W. Plaster Professor of Economic Education at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri (US). She was the 2015 president of the National Association of Economic Educators and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2009 National Association of Economic Educators’ Technology Award. M. Scott Niederjohn is Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship and Charlotte and Walter Kohler Charitable Trust Professor of Economics at Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (US). Professor Niederjohn is also the Director of Lakeland’s Center for Economic Education. Mark C. Schug is Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (US), where he directed the Center for Economic Education. He has received national awards for leadership and research in economic education from the Council on Economic Education and for service from the Association of Private Enterprise Education. William C. Wood is Head of Department of Economics and Director of the Center for Economic Education at James Madison University (US). Wood was the recipient of multiple teaching awards, including the top research award given by the National Association of Economic Educators, the Henry H. Villard Award.
