Past president of the Brazilian Society of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery from 2000-2002 and 2006-2008. Medical director of the non-governmental organization, Operation Smile, from 2004 to 2011, and former president, between 2004 and 2005. Member of the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery since 2013. Dr. Alonso has great activity in the area of implementing global surgery as an essential element in primary care in health. He is also head of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery team at the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies in Bauru-USP (HRAC-Centrinho) and coordinator ofthe Craniomaxillofacial Surgery medical residency program at HRAC (Bauru), University of São Paulo.
