Working with Intelligent Systems

The growing integration of artificial intelligence into workplace environments is transforming how decisions are made, how knowledge is generated, and how work is organized across industries and institutional contexts. Examining the evolving relationship between human capabilities, organizational systems, and intelligent technologies is now a priority of the highest order. Working with Intelligent Systems argues that the future of work will be shaped not by the substitution of human labor but by the quality of interaction and collaboration between people and intelligent systems. Through a human-centered lens, it explores how artificial intelligence is influencing organizational structures, workforce capabilities, leadership practices, innovation processes, and decision-making environments. The book integrates insights from management studies, organizational behavior, innovation research, sustainability, digital transformation, and socio-technical systems theory to discuss human–machine collaboration, emotional AI, augmented enterprises, digital and analytical skills, decision intelligence, Industry 5.0, smart manufacturing, healthcare innovation, and cybersecurity resilience. Ethical and governance challenges associated with transparency, accountability, algorithmic fairness, employee well-being, and responsible AI adoption are explored.Designed for researchers, academics, doctoral scholars, postgraduate students, policymakers, organizational leaders, and professionals, this monograph provides timely insights into how intelligent systems can be developed, governed, and utilized to support responsible, inclusive, and sustainable futures of work.
