Control of Growth Factors and Prevention of Cancer

It is now apparent that several fields of investigation areconverging upon each other as the goal of finding apractical way to prevent cancer is pursued. The presentmonograph represents the efforts of an interdisciplinary ESOTask Force that was convened to assess interactions ofpeptide growth factors and steroid-like molecules in theprevention of cancer. Each of the participants in the TaskForce represents a differentscientific discipline, and themonogrph is intended to be a synthesis of their differentapproaches to the common problem of cancer prevention.It is hoped that the reader will find this monograph to beof use in the evaluation of both preclinical and clinicalapproaches to the major issues that face us inchemoprevention. It is clear that prevention of cancer is anidea whose time has come, and the problem now is toimplement the most effective approaches toward achieving thedesired goals.
