The Second Five-Year Plan – Building a Socialist Society (1933–1937)

The fifth volume of Mikhail Vostryshev''s series is dedicated to the time of industrialization, when the main values were labor and personnel capable of solving key problems in the construction of a socialist state. Despite a half-starved existence, the people of the country worked tirelessly to increase productivity and set new records. During this period, technical backwardness began to be overcome: domestic machine tools, transport and powerful factories appeared. Industrial transformations changed the social structure: many young peasants became workers, which opened a new era for Soviet science, culture and education. The book describes how these efforts laid the foundation for large-scale achievements in the future, making it an indispensable guide to one of the key periods in the history of the USSR.
