Comic History of Rome

Roman history from Romulus to the empire, told as a running joke with punning footnotes and John Leech''s cartoons. A Beckett wrote for Punch and produced these comic histories in the 1840s and 1850s; they were read by schoolboys who found them funnier than the textbook and remembered more of them. Its 77 original illustrations have been carefully restored and coloured for this edition.
