Comic History of England

English history from the Druids to the Georges, with puns in the footnotes and John Leech''s drawings on every other page. A Beckett was one of the founders of Punch and this was the book generations of schoolboys read instead of the one they were set. This edition adds 49 bound plates of royal and historical painting, among them works by Sydney Prior Hall, William Quiller Orchardson and Edwin Landseer, ranging from Windsor Castle to Queen Victoria and her descendants.
